SMEI President’s Message

KealiiAloha!  The 2009-2010 Board of Directors and I are committed to creating exciting and innovative ways to be relevant and engaging to our membership.

We are pleased to announce the creation of our SME Honolulu blog created by Pete Martinez President, e-BizHawaii.com.   We will be using this tool as our main means of communicating information and news to our membership.

Our first dinner meeting will kick off the SMEI Honolulu year on Tuesday, September 22nd. Our speaker will be John McNamara, University of Hawai`i Associate Athletics Director, External Affairs.

McNamara has been with UH since 2004, his responsibilities include marketing, corporate partnerships, media relations, advertising, promotions, licensing, merchandising, as well as television, radio, computer operations and Internet initiatives. McNamara will be sharing UH’s current success, the upcoming athletics year, and their Corporate Partner Programs.

Future dinner speakers are Rainer Kumbroch, President of Roy’s Restaurants-Hawai`i on October 20th and Dave Hilfman of Continental Airlines on January 20th.   We thank Tim Deegan for heading up the Program Committee.  He is supported by Bill Gaeth, Jay Higa, Michael Troy, WavenDean Fernandes, and Stephanie Uyeda.

A huge Mahalo goes out to Donna Smith who is the chair of our upcoming Salesperson of the Year Luncheon.  The committee members includes Tim Deegan, Brandon DelaCruz, Ian Fernandez, Joe Gedeon, Kris Gjylameti, David Hayter, Tom Hedeen, Malia Lageman, Steve Lent, Dave Livingston, Pete Martinez, Norris Sandvold, John Seth, Janet Scheffer, Ivy Wong and Stephanie Uyeda. They have started the search for our 52nd SPOY winner.  The criterion for the SPOY Winner is an individual who greatly enhanced the image of Hawai`i and the quality of life in our community.

Jaydence Goya is heading up our Distinguished Sales and Marketing Committee.  Committee members include John Seth, Jean Panoncial, Homer Smith, Malia Lageman, Jonathan Sugai, Jonelle Rezantes, Jim Myers, Terry Peacock and Stephanie Uyeda.  The Committee encourages all members to get their companies involved in this first-class recognition program.

Our Membership Committee is headed up by Clint Schroeder. Lee Collins has graciously agreed to support Clint for the next year. The committee consists of Franco Arango, Tim Deegan, Jaydence Goya, Dave Livingston, Pete Martinez, and Michael Troy.

Membership Retention is headed up by Jim Myers.  Assisting Jim with retention efforts are Naomi Kanna and Clint Schroeder.

Communications and Marketing is headed up by Janet Scheffer with support from Pete Martinez and Dave Livingston.

And Youth Education is chaired by Dave Livingston.

I encourage all members to join one of our committees and make the most of their membership.
